WordPress Maintenance and Support, Without the Retainer Games

WordPress runs about 43% of the web, and it stays secure the same way a car stays roadworthy — someone has to actually service it. Core updates ship every few weeks, plugins update constantly, and the overwhelming majority of hacked WordPress sites were compromised through a known vulnerability in an out-of-date plugin that nobody got round to updating.

We keep your site updated, backed up, monitored, and fast for a fixed monthly price. Updates are tested on a staging copy before they touch your live site, so a plugin update never takes your business offline on a Tuesday morning. No lock-in contracts, no bundled hosting you did not ask for, and no invoice surprises.

Worth knowing: Most "maintenance plans" are a cron job that clicks update and emails you a PDF. If an update breaks your checkout at 2am, that plan does nothing. The difference is whether a person tests the update first and whether a person answers when something goes wrong.

What’s actually involved

Updates tested before they ship

Core, theme, and plugin updates are applied to a staging copy and checked before going live. This is the single biggest difference between a real maintenance plan and an automated one.

Backups that are actually restorable

Daily off-site backups with 30-day retention — and we periodically test a restore, because a backup nobody has ever restored is a hope, not a backup.

Uptime monitoring that reaches a human

Checks every minute from multiple regions. If your site goes down we know before you do, and someone starts working on it.

Security hardening & malware scanning

Login hardening, file-integrity monitoring, and a firewall — plus cleanup included if something does get through.

Performance kept in check

Core Web Vitals are monitored continuously. Sites get slower over time as content and plugins accumulate; we catch that drift.

A named person who answers

You get a real reply from someone who knows your site, not a ticket number and a canned response.

What’s included — and what isn’t

Included in every plan

  • WordPress core, theme, and plugin updates
  • Daily off-site backups and restore testing
  • 24/7 uptime monitoring with alerting
  • Security hardening, scanning, and malware cleanup
  • Broken-link and 404 monitoring
  • Small content edits (hours vary by plan)

Not included

  • Hosting — you keep your own, we work with any host
  • New feature development or redesigns (quoted separately)
  • Third-party licence fees for premium plugins
  • Content writing and photography
  • Paid ad management

We list exclusions because the ones that don’t are the ones that surprise you later.

Questions people actually ask

How much does WordPress maintenance cost?

Our regular plans run $99, $199, and $399 per month depending on how critical the site is and how much hands-on time you need — and new clients currently get 50% off the first three months, so those start at $49, $99, and $199 before returning to the regular price. Across the market you will see $50–$500/month; anything under about $50 is almost certainly an automated updater with nobody behind it. Compare on whether updates are tested on staging and whether a human responds — those are the two things you are actually paying for.

Do I have to move my hosting to you?

No. We work with whatever host you are on — WP Engine, Kinsta, SiteGround, Cloudways, Bluehost, or your own VPS. Plans that force a hosting migration are usually bundling their hosting margin into the maintenance fee. You keep your hosting and your control.

What happens if my site gets hacked while on a plan?

Cleanup is included. We restore from a clean backup, patch the entry point, scan for backdoors, and submit for review if Google has flagged the site. There is no surprise emergency invoice — handling this is the reason the plan exists.

Is there a contract?

No. Plans are month to month and you can cancel any time. We will also hand over your backups on the way out. Long lock-in contracts exist to protect the agency, not you.

What if I need more than the included hours?

Extra work is quoted up front at a fixed price before we start. You will never receive an invoice for hours you did not agree to.
