Custom ERP Development for Businesses Running on Five Disconnected Tools

ERP stands for enterprise resource planning, which makes it sound bigger than it is. For most small and mid-sized businesses it means one system where orders, stock, purchasing, production and the numbers all agree with each other.

We build the operational core — the parts that are specific to how you work — and connect it to accounting software that already handles the regulated parts well. You get one source of truth without paying for modules you will never open.

This is for you if

  • ✓Stock, orders and accounts live in separate tools that never quite agree
  • ✓Someone re-types orders from one system into another every day
  • ✓Off-the-shelf ERP quotes came back at six figures with a year of implementation
  • ✓Your production or fulfilment process is specific enough that generic software fights it

This is probably not for you if

  • ✕You need statutory accounting, payroll and tax filing built from scratch — those belong in QuickBooks, Xero or NetSuite, and we connect to them rather than replace them

We would rather tell you now than take the project and disappoint you.

Worth knowing: The riskiest part of any ERP project is the switch-over, not the software. Running old and new systems side by side for a few weeks, comparing stock counts and order totals every day, is what turns launch day from a gamble into a non-event. A proposal without that parallel run is cheaper because it skips the part that protects you.

What you get

Inventory you can trust

Stock by location, batch or serial number where you need it, with every movement logged so counts can be explained rather than corrected.

Orders end to end

Quotes, sales orders, picking, dispatch and returns in one flow, so nobody re-types an order.

Purchasing and suppliers

Reorder points, purchase orders and supplier lead times, so you buy before you run out instead of after.

Production and recipes

Bills of materials that deduct components as finished goods are made, for manufacturers, kitchens and assemblers.

Accounting connected

Invoices, payments and journal entries sent to QuickBooks or Xero, so your accountant keeps working where they already do.

Reports that agree

Margins, stock value and fulfilment times calculated from the same data, so two reports never contradict each other.

Custom ERP or Odoo, NetSuite and the rest?

Packaged ERP is the right answer more often than custom, and we will say so when it is. A rough guide:

OptionSuitsWatch out for
NetSuite, Dynamics, SAP Business OneLarger companies with standard processes and an implementation budgetLicences plus partner fees, and long timelines
OdooSmaller businesses happy to work the way its modules expectHeavy customization gets expensive and can complicate upgrades
QuickBooks or Xero plus add-onsSimple stock and orders, one or two locationsStrains with production, several warehouses or complex pricing
Custom ERPWorkflows that are specific to you and part of your edgeYou own the maintenance, so budget for it

A common middle path: keep the accounting package, build a custom operational system for the parts that are genuinely yours, and connect the two.

What we build it with

Deliberately mainstream choices. You should be able to hand this to any competent developer later without them needing to learn something exotic first.

How it works

1

Map how work flows

From an order arriving to cash in the bank, step by step, including the workarounds people use today.

2

Phase the build

A fixed price per phase, starting with the module that hurts most — usually inventory or orders.

3

Parallel run

New and old systems side by side, with daily comparisons, until the numbers match.

4

Switch over and support

Cut-over on a quiet day, staff walked through it, and support while the new habits settle in.

Questions

How much does custom ERP development cost?

Our ERP projects start at $15,000 for a focused operational system and commonly run $30,000–$80,000 when they cover several departments. Each phase has a fixed price. Packaged ERPs often cost similar amounts in licences and implementation within the first two years.

How long does an ERP implementation take?

A first module is usually live in ten to twenty weeks. Systems covering several departments are built in phases over six to twelve months, so you use each part as soon as it is ready instead of waiting for all of it.

Can you integrate with QuickBooks or Xero?

Yes. Both have well-documented APIs. Invoices, payments, customers and journal entries can sync automatically, and we design the sync so a failure is flagged to a person rather than silently skipped.

What happens to the data in our current system?

It is exported, cleaned and imported, with opening stock and open orders checked against the old system before switch-over. The old system stays readable for reference.

Who maintains it afterwards?

Any developer who knows TypeScript and Postgres can, or we can on a monthly support plan. Either way the code, the database and the hosting are in your accounts.
