If this number is uncomfortable, get a speed and structure audit first — a meaningful share of "we need a redesign" turns out to be "we need the site to load in under two seconds".

A redesign is often not the answer. Plenty of sites that feel tired are actually just slow, or badly structured, or missing the one page their customers keep searching for. Those are far cheaper to fix than a rebuild.
This estimates a genuine redesign. If your honest complaint is "it feels dated" but the site converts, spend the money on speed and content instead and keep the design.
It can, badly, and it is the most common expensive mistake in a redesign. Changing URLs without redirect mapping, dropping pages that ranked, or losing content depth all cost rankings. Budget for migration SEO if you have traffic worth keeping — it is far cheaper than recovering it afterwards.
Check three things first: does it load in under 2.5 seconds on mobile, can a stranger find your key information in ten seconds, and does it work properly on a phone. If all three pass and it merely looks a bit dated, a redesign is probably the wrong purchase.
Typically 4–10 weeks depending on page count and how fast content decisions get made. Content is nearly always the bottleneck — not design and not development.
Start fresh if the platform is holding you back or the structure is wrong. Redesign if the foundations are sound and it is the surface that is tired. Rebuilding on a modern stack usually pays for itself in speed and maintenance cost within two years.
