WordPress Security Services for Sites That Have Not Been Hacked Yet

Most hacked WordPress sites are not targeted. Automated bots scan millions of sites for a known hole in an outdated plugin, a weak admin password or an exposed login page, and break into whatever does not resist. Security is mostly about not being the easy one.

We audit your site for the weaknesses those bots look for, close them, and set up the monitoring and backups that turn a future incident into an inconvenience instead of a crisis. If the audit finds signs of an existing compromise, you hear about it immediately.

This is for you if

  • ✓Your site takes payments, bookings or leads and cannot afford to go down
  • ✓Plugins have not been updated in months and you are not sure what is safe to update
  • ✓Too many people have admin logins, and some of them left years ago
  • ✓You have never tested restoring a backup

This is probably not for you if

  • ✕Your site is hacked right now — go straight to malware removal, which includes hardening afterwards

We would rather tell you now than take the project and disappoint you.

Worth knowing: Security plugins help, but they cannot fix what they do not control: an abandoned plugin with a known vulnerability, an admin account belonging to a former contractor, or a backup stored on the same server it is meant to protect. Most of the work is housekeeping that no plugin does for you.

What you get

Security audit

Core, themes and plugins checked against known vulnerabilities, abandoned plugins flagged, and core files verified.

Login and user hardening

Two-factor authentication for admins, strong passwords enforced, login rate limits, and old accounts removed.

Least privilege

Every user on the lowest role they need, and file editing from the dashboard switched off.

Firewall and bot protection

A web application firewall, usually Cloudflare, blocking known attacks and bad bots before they reach WordPress.

Backups you have tested

Daily off-site backups kept separately from the server, with a restore tested so you know it works.

Monitoring

Uptime, file changes and blacklist checks, with alerts to a person when something looks wrong.

The WordPress hardening checklist we work through

  1. 1Update or replace outdated and abandoned plugins and themes, and delete the unused ones.
  2. 2Require two-factor authentication for every administrator and editor.
  3. 3Limit login attempts and protect the login page from automated guessing.
  4. 4Turn off XML-RPC if nothing uses it, and switch off file editing in the dashboard.
  5. 5Set correct file permissions and keep secrets out of public folders.
  6. 6Add security headers and force HTTPS everywhere.
  7. 7Put a web application firewall in front of the site.
  8. 8Store backups off-site and encrypted, and test a restore.
  9. 9Remove users who no longer need access, and review roles regularly.
  10. 10Monitor file changes, uptime and search engine blacklists.

What we use

Protection in front of WordPress as well as inside it.

Firewall

Cloudflare WAF and bot rules, or your host's firewall

Inside WordPress

Two-factor authentication, login limits, file integrity checks

Backups

Daily off-site, encrypted, with tested restores

Monitoring

Uptime, file changes, blacklist and vulnerability alerts

Not sure whether a security check is what you actually need? Send over what you are trying to fix and we will tell you straight — including if a smaller job would do it.

How it works

1

Audit

A full security review of the site, server settings and users, with the findings in writing.

2

Fixed quote

One price for hardening. Most sites fit the standard package; unusual setups are quoted before work starts.

3

Harden

Fixes applied on a staging copy where possible, then to the live site at a quiet time.

4

Monitor

Monitoring and backups handed to you, or kept running on a care plan.

Questions

How much do WordPress security services cost?

A security audit and hardening starts at $399 for a typical business site. Ongoing protection with updates, monitoring and backups is part of our care plans from $99 a month. Cleaning up a site that is already hacked is quoted on the malware removal page.

Is WordPress secure?

WordPress core is well maintained and patched quickly. Almost all compromises come through outdated plugins and themes, weak or reused passwords, and poor hosting — all of which are fixable.

Do I need a security plugin?

A good one helps, especially for login protection and file monitoring. But a plugin running inside WordPress cannot protect you as well as a firewall in front of it, and it cannot keep your other plugins up to date for you.

How do I know if my site has already been hacked?

Common signs are unexpected redirects, spam pages showing up in Google for your domain, admin users you did not create, and warnings from Google or your host. Our audit checks for all of them. If you are seeing them now, go to malware removal.

Can you secure a WooCommerce store?

Yes, with extra attention to checkout, payment plugins, customer accounts and order data, since stores are a more valuable target.
