Tips to learn the map faster

  • Start with the anchors: Egypt in the northeast, South Africa at the southern tip, Nigeria on the bend of the west coast, DR Congo in the middle and Ethiopia in the Horn of Africa.
  • Togo and Benin are the two thin strips between Ghana and Nigeria. Togo is the western one.
  • The two Congos sit on either side of the Congo River. DR Congo is the giant; the Republic of the Congo is the smaller country to its west.
  • Rwanda is the small country north of Burundi, both squeezed between DR Congo and Tanzania.
  • Lesotho is completely surrounded by South Africa. Eswatini sits on South Africa's border with Mozambique.
  • Gambia is the thin country along the Gambia River, almost entirely inside Senegal.
