Tips to learn the map faster

  • Zoom in with two fingers, the mouse wheel or the + button. Small islands get a ring marker you can tap, and it disappears once you are close enough to tap the land itself.
  • Learn the anchors first: the largest country on each continent makes it easy to find its neighbors.
  • Skip a country you can't find. It comes back at the end, and skipping costs nothing.
  • Try Capitals and Flags mode on a map you already know. It is the fastest way to learn them.
  • Share your result. Your friend gets the same countries in the same order, so it is a fair race.

Questions people ask

How many countries are there in the world?

The usual answer is 195: the 193 members of the United Nations plus its two observer states, Vatican City and Palestine. This quiz has 197, because it also includes Kosovo and Taiwan, which many lists treat as countries.

What is the largest country in the world?

Russia, at about 17.1 million square kilometers. Canada is second, then the United States and China.

What is the smallest country in the world?

Vatican City, at less than half a square kilometer, entirely surrounded by the city of Rome. Monaco is second smallest.

What is the Daily 10?

Ten countries from all over the world, the same for every player on a given day. Only your first try of the day counts, and playing on consecutive days builds a streak.

How is the score worked out?

Each country is worth one point if you find it first time, half a point on the second try and a quarter on the third. Your score is the percentage of points you got. Time breaks ties.

Is Map Pop free?

Yes. Every map, mode and the Daily 10 are free, with no sign-up and nothing to download. Your best scores are saved in your browser.
