A free online tank game in a rail yard
Freight Fight is a top-down tank battle set in a working rail yard. You pick one of four tanks, drive it around the yard and score by knocking out the other tanks before they knock you out. Supply crates keep dropping in with power-ups: shields, homing missiles, air strikes and more. Drive over a crate and the power-up switches on by itself.
Every yard is crossed by railway tracks, and the trains do not stop. When one comes through, any tank on the rails is wrecked, yours included, even behind a shield. While it passes it is a moving wall that no shell gets through. Good players use the trains: they hit a tank on the rails just before a train flattens it, which counts as their knockout, or hide behind a passing train to reload. There are 4 maps, and an online room moves to the next one every round.
How to play
On a computer
- WASD or the arrow keys
- drive
- Mouse
- aim the turret
- Click or Space
- fire
- Tab

- Esc or Shift+Tab
- jump to the Leave and sound buttons
On a phone or tablet
- Left stick
- Put your left thumb anywhere on the left half of the screen and push to drive.
- Right stick
- Put your right thumb on the right half to aim. Push it past about a third of the way and the tank fires while you hold it.

- Landscape gives you the widest view of the yard. The page stops scrolling and zooming while you play.
Watch the tracks
A warning appears beside the track 6 seconds before a train arrives. It says whether the track is above you, below you or under you, shows which way the train is heading and counts down the seconds. If the track is off the screen, an arrow on the warning points to it. At 3.5 seconds the horn sounds, the crossing lights flash red and the warning turns red.
Anything on the track when the train passes is destroyed, even a tank with a shield. That counts as a death. If you hit a tank and a train flattens it within 4 seconds, the knockout is yours: the game calls it RAILROADED. If nobody hit it, nobody gets the kill. Shells cannot pass through a train, so a passing train is cover for a few seconds.
Trains run on a timetable that is the same for everyone in a room, so in an online game your friends see the same train at the same moment you do.
Maps
Freight Fight has 4 maps, and each one plays differently: a different number of tracks, faster or slower trains, and new cover. In an online room the map changes every round, and the break between rounds shows which one is next. Against bots you can pick a map, or mix them.
- Freight YardThe original rail yard. Two tracks with trains from either side, and container stacks, sheds and low walls to fight around.
- Night ShiftThe yard at night under floodlights. Two fast main lines run side by side through the middle, one each way, and split the yard into two halves. Train headlights sweep the tracks.
- Frost JunctionA snowy junction with three tracks and slower trains, signal huts and snow banks. Patches of ice make your tank slide, so brake early.
- Harbour DocksA harbour with one long, fast container train through the middle, two water slips that stop tanks (shells fly over the water) and two red cranes beside the line.
Power-ups
Every 20 seconds a supply drop lands in the yard: two wooden crates and one steel crate between the tracks. A ring on the ground shows where each one will land. Drive over a crate and a quick spin picks your power-up. It switches on by itself, so there is nothing new to press.
Wooden crates hold the everyday power-ups. Steel crates hold the strongest ones, missiles and air strikes included, so they are worth the drive.
- RepairPuts 50 health back straight away.
- Gear upYour tank drives much faster for 6 seconds. It is easy to overshoot onto the rails.
- Rapid fireLighter shells, fired more than twice as fast, for 7 seconds.
- Triple shotThree shells in a fan for 10 seconds. Best up close.
- ShieldBlocks 60 damage for up to 8 seconds. It does not stop trains.
- Auto-aimFor 10 seconds your turret locks onto enemies on your screen. You still choose when to fire.
- Missiles3 homing missiles to use within 15 seconds. One fires only when an enemy is locked; otherwise you fire a normal shell. To dodge one, turn hard when it gets close.
- Air strikeYour next shot is a red flare. 2 seconds after it lands, bombs fall inside the red ring. Drive out of the ring and you are safe.
You can hold one gun power-up (rapid fire, triple shot, missiles or air strike) and one gear power-up (gear up, shield or auto-aim) at the same time. Pick up the same one again for MAX: it lasts longer, hits harder or gives you more shots.
If you are behind, the spin may say COMEBACK: the better power-ups are more likely for you.
The shape behind each icon tells you its kind: a square for guns, a circle for defence, a triangle for speed and a striped diamond for bombs.
Your shots change with your power-ups: rapid fire shoots small cyan tracers, triple shot is green, MAX versions are bigger and glow, missiles glow at the tail, and a tank on fire shoots fire shells. The explosions match.
On fire
Knock out 3 tanks in a row without being knocked out yourself and your tank catches fire: flames pour off it, it glows, and your shots turn into fire shells. At 5 in a row it becomes an INFERNO.
While you are on fire, your power-ups do not run out. Rapid fire, triple shot, a shield or auto-aim keeps going until someone knocks you out. Missiles and air strikes still get used up, shot by shot.
Everyone can see a burning tank, and an arrow on everyone else's screen points to it, so the whole yard comes after you. Whoever knocks out a burning tank gets a SHUTDOWN: 50 health back and a big XP bonus.
Paint, skins and levels
Paint your tank in any of 12 colours in the Garage, under the tank picker. In an online room you get your colour unless another tank already has it, or one that looks like it; then the room gives you the closest free colour, so every tank in a room looks different.
Skins put a pattern over your colour: camo, hazard stripes, desert camo, tiger stripes, rust, digital camo, flames, carbon, neon, chrome and gold. 3 are free; the rest unlock as you level up. Everyone in the room sees your skin. Colours and skins only change how your tank looks, never how it plays.
You earn XP for knockouts, streaks, crates, direct hits and finishing near the top. After each round the break shows what you earned, your level and any new skin, with a button to put it on. Your level is saved in this browser.

Rounds, knockouts and respawns
Rounds last 4 minutes. Each knockout is a kill for you and a death for the other tank; the scoreboard ranks kills first, then fewest deaths.
After each round there is a 12-second break with the final scoreboard and the XP you earned, then the next round starts with everyone back at zero. In an online room the next round is on the next map.
A tank has 100 health and a direct hit does 34, so three hits knock it out. Shells that land close by do a little splash damage too. You are back 3 seconds after a knockout, with a 3-second spawn shield that ends as soon as you fire.
Play with friends: a 2 player or multiplayer tank game
- Create a roomPress "Create a room" above. You get a four-letter code and a link to that room.
- Send the linkCopy the link or the code into a chat. It opens straight to your room on any phone, tablet or computer.
- BattleUp to 6 people can be in a room. While there are fewer than 4 tanks, bots join so there is always someone to fight.
For a 2 player tank game, each of you plays on your own device: one creates the room, the other opens the link or types the code into "Join with code". There is no split screen on one keyboard.
The first person in the room runs the bots from their browser, and the room hands that job on if they leave. A room stays open for 30 minutes after the last player leaves, so a group can drop out and come back with the same code.
Questions people ask
Is Freight Fight free?
Yes. Freight Fight is free to play in your browser. There is nothing to download, no account to make and nothing to buy.
Can I play a 2 player tank game with a friend?
Yes. Press "Create a room", send your friend the link or the four-letter code, and they join from their own phone, tablet or computer. Each player needs their own device; there is no split screen on one keyboard.
How many players can join a multiplayer room?
Up to 6 people per room. When fewer than 4 tanks are in the yard, bots fill the empty spots, so you can start alone and friends can join while you play.
Is Freight Fight unblocked?
It runs in a normal web page with nothing to download or install, so it works wherever pixelandoak.com opens. Whether a school or office network allows the site is up to that network; the game does not try to get around filters.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. On a touch screen two thumb sticks appear: the left one drives and the right one aims and fires. It needs a browser with WebGL 2, which recent Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge all have. Landscape works best.
What happens when a train comes?
A warning appears beside the track 6 seconds before the train, with the direction and a countdown, and the horn and flashing red lights start at 3.5 seconds. Anything on the rails when the train passes is destroyed, even a tank with a shield, and shells cannot pass through a train. If you hit a tank and a train flattens it within 4 seconds, you get the knockout.
What are the power-ups?
Every 20 seconds three supply crates drop into the yard. Drive over one to get a power-up: repair, gear up, rapid fire, triple shot, shield, auto-aim, homing missiles or an air strike. Steel crates hold the strongest ones.
How do I use a power-up?
You do not press anything new. A power-up switches on as soon as you pick it up. Rapid fire, triple shot and missiles change what your normal fire button shoots, and an air strike turns your next shot into a flare that calls in the bombs.
Are some tanks better than others?
No. Brawler, Scout, Heavy and Twin only look different: every tank has the same speed, armour and gun, so pick the one you like the look of. Colours and skins are looks too. In an online room, everyone sees your tank and your skin.
What does ON FIRE mean?
Knock out 3 tanks without being knocked out and your tank catches fire. While it burns, your power-ups do not run out until someone knocks you out, and your shots become fire shells. At 5 in a row it becomes an INFERNO. Everyone can see a burning tank, and knocking one out is a SHUTDOWN that gives the winner 50 health back.
Can I change my tank colour and skin?
Yes. Open the Garage under the tank picker and pick one of 12 colours and a skin. Every colour is free. 3 skins are free and the others unlock as you level up by playing. If someone in an online room already has your colour, the room gives you the closest free one.
How many maps are there?
4: Freight Yard, Night Shift, Frost Junction, Harbour Docks. Online rooms change the map every round. Against bots, pick a map in the Garage, or leave it on Mixed.
How do I play against bots?
Press "Play vs bots". The game starts straight away against three computer tanks, with no room and no waiting.
Why does the game take a moment to load?
Freight Fight is a 3D game, so the first time you press Play your browser downloads it. The browser keeps a copy, so the next time usually starts faster.
Do I need an account, and is anything saved?
No account is needed. Your name, tank, colour, skin, level and XP are remembered in this browser only, so clearing the browser's data starts you again at level 1. Scores reset every round.
