How online rooms work
- Create a roomOpen Imposter, choose Online room and create a new room. You become the host and choose the packs and game options.
- Share the codeSend friends the 4-letter room code, the invite link or the QR code. They join from any modern browser, with no app or account.
- Pick a name and avatarEach player picks a name and an avatar, then waits in the lobby. The host can remove anyone who should not be there.
- Start the gameWhen everyone is in, the host starts the game. Each player sees their role on their own screen, and clues can be said out loud or typed in the app.
Online room questions
How many players can join an online room?
An online room holds 3 to 16 players, each on their own device. For a bigger group of up to 20, use Pass & Play on one phone.
What happens if someone disconnects?
A player who drops out can rejoin from the same device and keeps their score, so a weak signal does not cost anyone their points.
Can we play on a Zoom, FaceTime or Discord call?
Yes. Start the call first, then share the room code or link in the chat. Everyone sees their role privately on their own screen, and you can say clues out loud on the call or type them in the app.
What happens if the host leaves?
The room carries on without them. When the host leaves, the next player in the room becomes the new host.
Can someone join after the game has started?
Yes. Players who join in the middle of a round wait in the lobby and play from the next round. A room closes after 2 hours with nobody in it.
Playing in the same room with one phone? Use Pass & Play instead.
